Description

A moist and sweet semolina cake, reminiscent of Middle Eastern traditions, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds (for decoration)
  • 1/2 cup coconut (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the semolina, sugar, yogurt, milk, melted butter, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Mix gently until homogeneous.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish, smooth the top, and cut into diamond or square shapes, placing an almond in the center of each piece.
  4. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Prepare a syrup by boiling equal parts water and sugar, and pour it over the warm cake.

Notes

For best results, use fine semolina and creamy yogurt. You can substitute melted butter with coconut oil for a different flavor.
